Lower Manhattan is one of the fastest growing areas of New York City. Since September 11th, 2001, the residential community has more than doubled, and it is expected to grow to nearly 60,000 residents by the end of 2008, according to the Dowtown Alliance. New residents are drawn to Lower Manhattan because of its access to public transportation and proximity to work, the area’s quality of life, and its rich history.
The neighborhood’s charming cobblestone streets, historic location, iconic views, and waterfront access give the Seaport distinct residential appeal.
The hotel/residential building will help house this growing residential population in its upper stories, which will consist of one-, two-, and three-bedroom cooperative apartments.
Across South Street, new residential units in the landmark Schermerhorn Row will bring residents into the heart of the historic district. Here, residences will be created along Front and Fulton Streets.
With this new housing, along with new community-gathering spaces, retail, open spaces, and other amenities, GGP is working to sustain the Seaport’s diverse community and ensure a high quality of life for all downtown residents.
